Kruger National Park was established in 1898 to stop what had become the relentless hunting of large mammalian species in the Eastern Transvaal. The park was named after South Africa´s president at the time, Paul Kruger. The total area of 20000 km2 is now enlarged to extend over 35000 km2 to include crossboundary parks in Mozamibique and Zimbabwe. The Kruger has over 1,2 million overnight tourists a year and is considered one of perhaps fourteen of the greatest reserves in the world. |
